Module 1 - Introduction to Statistics Flashcards
What are the 3 major types of data?
- Numerical
- Nominal
- Ordinal
What is Population?
The set of all items of interest
What is Sample?
A set of data drawn from the studied population.
What are descriptive statistics?
Methods of organising, summarising and presenting data in ways that are useful, attractive and informative to the reader
What is Numerical data?
Data that involves values or real numbers(Quantitative)
What is Nominal data?
Data that involves categories e.g colours/age/names ect (Qualitative)
What is Ordinal data?
The ranking of nominal data (Ranked)
What are some graphical techniques for nominal data?
Bar charts
Pie charts
and frequency distributions
What is frequency distribution?
Method of presenting data and their counts in each category or class
What is a histogram?
Graphical presentation of a frequency distribution of numerical data
What are classes?
Non overlapping intervals of numerical data? e.g 31-40, 41-50 ect
Shapes of Histograms, what are the aspects to examine?
- Symmetry
- Number of modes
- resemblance to a bell shape
