Module 1: Introduction to Amazon Web Services Flashcards
What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing refers to the on demand delivery of IT resources and applications through the internet
What are the 6 benefits of cloud computing?
- Trade capital expense for operational expense (don’t own hardware, pay on demand, reduce TCO)
- Economics of scale (runs at a large-scale from under a multi-tenancy model)
- Scalability
- Speed and agility, provision resources as required
- No data center maintenance
- Global (world-wide AWS infrastructures)
What are the three cloud computing deployment models?
- Cloud
- On-premises
- Hybrid
What is a cloud based deployment model?
Cloud based deployment model refers to migrating existing applications or designing/building new applications in the cloud.
What is a on-premise deployment model (private cloud deployment)?
Private cloud deployment is where resources are
deployed on premises by using virtualization and resource-management tools
What is a hybrid deployment?
Cloud-based resources are connected to an on-premises
infrastructure.
When might you need to use a hybrid deployment?
For example, you might have legacy applications that are better maintained on premises, or government regulations require your business to keep certain records on premises.
What is Economies of Scale in cloud computing?
Because usage from
hundreds of thousands of customers can aggregate in the cloud, AWS can achieve higher economies of scale. The economy of scale translates into lower pay-as-you-go price
