- Voluntary patient: the person requests hospitalization and voluntarily agrees to be admitted
- Involuntary commitment: a person with the legal capacity to consent refuses to do so and is treated against his will

Protecting a patient’s private information, ensuring it is only shared with authorized individuals involved in their care, in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines
What are mandates to inform?
Require nurses to break patient confidentiality and inform authorities or potential victims if a patient poses a risk of harm to themselves or others, in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines
What is the purpose of restraints and legal rights?
A special procedure for coping with assaultive and dangerous patients
- these patients can be isolated or mechanically restrained to prevent injury to the patient, other patients, or staff
What is informed consent?
To give consent to a treatment or procedure, a person must have the needed relevant information, be able to rationally deliberate, and not be forced into a decision
What is the purpose of psychological assessment?
Helps diagnose conditions, guide treatment, monitor progress, and support effective patient care
What is the biopsychosocial framework for the psychological domain?
Involves the theoretical basis of the psychological processes-thoughts, feelings, and behavior that influence one’s emotion, cognition, and behavior
