Module 1 GYN Anatomy Flashcards
Location and function of Vulva
The Vulva is the externally visible outer genitalia:
It includes
- Mon pubis
- labia minora
- labia majora
- clitoris
- urinary meatus
- vaginal opening
- corpus spongiosum erectile tissue (vestibular bulbs) of the labia minora and perineum.
Location and function of mons pubis
Mons pubis is the mound-like fatty tissue that covers and protects the symphysis pubis.
During puberty, genital hair growth covers this pad of tissue.
Location and function of Labia majora
The labia majora are fused anteriorly with the mons veneris (or anterior prominence of the symphysis pubis) and posteriorly with the perineal body (or posterior commissure)
They assist in keeping the vaginal introitus closed, which in turn helps prevent infection.
Location and function of labia minora
Location and function of clitoris
Location and function of urethral orifice
Location and function of vaginal introitus/orifice
Location and function of Skene’s glands
Location and function of Bartholin’s gland
Bartholin gland is on each side of the vestibule….
The Bartholin gland secretes lubricating mucus into the introitus during sexual excitement
Location and function of Ovaries
Location and function of Fallopian tubes
