The verbs and expressions what can be followed by gerunds:
Be, can’t help, discuss, dislike, enjoy, feel like, finish, get used to, give up, imagine, keep, miss, practice, suggest
Gerund (verb + ing) can be used
As the subject of a sentence
After certain verbs and expressions
After prepositions (in, of, etc.)
Infinitive (to + base form of the verb) can be used:
As the subject of a sentence
After certain verbs and expressions
After certain adjectives (happy, etc.)
After certain nous (decision, etc.)
The verbs what can be followed by the infinite:
Afford, agree, appear, arrange, attempt, decide, forget, hope, manage, plan, prepare, promise, want
The verbs what can be followed by either a gerund or an infinitive with no chance in meaning:
Begin, can’t stand, continue, hate, like, love, prefer, start, try
Other verbs can be followed by either a gerund or an infinitive, but with a change in meaning
He stopped eating meat last year. (He stopped the habit or action).
He stopped to eat a sandwich. (He stopped what he was doing in order to do something else)
