Module 1 chapter 2 Flashcards
Categories of performance
Outcome: speed, distance but doesn’t describe the movements or activity of muscles
Production: performance characteristics to achieve outcome, kinematices, force, EMG
Reaction time
RT length of time to prepare and initiate a movement (time of stimulus to reaction)
Movement time
The amount of time it takes when initiated to completion MT
RT + MT = ?
Response time
Simple, choice and discrimination are ?
Types of reaction time
Simple reaction time
1 signal, 1 response
Choice reaction time
1 signal, each signal with specified response
Discrimination
1 signal , only 1 response (red blue and green and only supposed to put the button when a certain color appears)
Spatial accuracy, temporal accuracy are components of ?
Error measures
Error measures indicate accuracy, a problem with consistency may mean
Basic movement pattern has not been acquired
Error measures indicate accuracy, a problem with bias may mean
Basic movement pattern has been acquired, but adaptation to task demands has not been acquired
One dimensional error measures
Absolute error AE
Absolute difference between actual performance on each rep and goal
Magnitude of error, general index of accuracy
Constant error CE
Signed deviation from target (+-), amount and direction _ walk at a certain speed and are always over or under
Tendency to over or undershoot goal
Variable error VE
Amount of variability in the performance
VE vs CE
Marks all over the target vs one general area on target
Kinematic measures
Motion description without regard to force
Describe characteristics of critical components of skill during movement
Displacement, velocity and acceleration
-marks joints or track person moving object
-linear motion = in a straight line; whole all body/object moves same distance over same time
-angular motion (rotary motion) = occurs about axis of rotation
Kinetics
Consideration of FORCE in study of movement
Force as a cause of motion, force plates, force transducers, strain gauges
