What is leadership?
A complex phenomenon involving the leader, the followers and the situation
How is leadership both a science and art?
Leadership is a science because it can viewed as a scholarly inquiry which means the person is trained or experimentation with studies and how effective their practice is but is viewed as an art also because of the varying skills and situations across leaders.
What are the myths about leadership?
Good leadership is all common sense, leaders are born, not made, the only school you learn leadership from is the school of hard knocks.
The interactional framework depicts leadership as a function of what three elements?
The leader, the follower and the situation.
How do effective leaders differ from their followers and ineffective leaders?
Personality traits(temperament), skills, values and cognitive abilities
What is the action-observation-reflection (AOR) model?
Shows that leadership decelopement is enhanced when the experience involve three different processes; action, observation, reflection.
What is perceptual set?
The tendency or bias to perceive one thing, and not the other
What is the definition of attribution?
Explanation we develop for behaviors or action we attend to.
What is fundamental attribution?
To overestimate the causes when others fail and underestimate their environmental causes when others fail
What is a self serving bias?
When you blame factors in the situation to fail (like they weren’t interested or didn’t have enough time to come)
What is the actor/observers difference?
Relating factors to a fundamental error (seeing someone get a F on a quiz attributes that they are not very bright or didn’t study)
What is the self-fulfilling prophecy?
Our expectations or prediction play a role in bringing out the event we predict.
What is single-loop learning?
Learning between the individual and the environment in which learners seek relative feedback that comfort their ideas or actions.
What is double-loop learning?
A willingness to confront ones own views and an invitation to other to do so, too.
What is developmental planning?
A process that helps leaders to accelerate the development of their own leadership skills.
