What is science?
Explains what things are, how they work, and how they came to he in a way that can be tested against evidence in the world itself.
What is a myth?
A story whose truth seems self-evident.
What is scientific stories?
Are open to testing that can confirm or refute them.
What is objectivity?
Is the separation of observation and reporting from the research’s wishes or assumptions.
What is an assumption?
Unquestioned understanding about the way the world works.
What is evidence?
What is seen when a particular part of the world is examined with great care.
What is material evidence?
Consists of things and material objects.
What is inferred evidence?
Is material evidence and interpretation.
What is theorizing (about the world)?
Its a form of story telling.
What is a theory?
A term used by scientists in a way different from more casual usage.
Ex: “I have a theory about this person”
What is a scientific theory?
Coherently organized series of testable hypotheses.
Used to explain a body of material evidence.
What is testability?
The ability of scientific hypotheses to be matched against nature to see whether they are confirmed or refuted.
What is hypotheses?
Are statements that assert a particular connection between fact and interpretation.
What is the most powerful scientific theories?
Those whoes key hypotheses have been tested repeatedly and have never been disconfirmed.
