Ways to Define the Caribbean
Geographical- based on the concept of the Caribbean Basin and refers to lands washed by the Caribbean Sea including all West Indian islands and surrounding mainland territories (generally between 60^W and 90^W of the Greenwich and 5-25^N of equator.
Geological- an area located on the Caribbean Plate (Excluding Belize, Cuba, Guyana & Mexico)
Historical- areas which share the same processes and cultural history of slavery, indentureship, European colonization and plantation society.
Political-countires that belong to the political affiliations such a CARICOM. Excluding territories owned/governed by the US or European nations.
OECS (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States)
Diasporic- the dispersion of people from their original homeland (Caribbean people living overseas)
