Module 1 Flashcards
Computer connected to the network classifies as a?
Host
What is server?
Sever is computer able to provide information to other devices on the network.
What is Peer-to-Peer?
Network, where computers function as client and srever at the same time
How do we call devices that connect end devices tot he network?
Intermediary devices
Name atleast three intermediary devices
Router, Switch, Firewall
Name atleast four functions of intermediary devices
- Regenerate and retransmit communication signals
- Notify other devices about errors in communication
- Permin or denny the flow of data based on security settings
- Maintain information about what pathways exist through the network and internetwork
What does network media provide?
Channel - path for communication
What are four criteria for choosing network media?
- Maximum distance
- Environment where it will be instaled
- Amount of data that will be transmited
- Cost
What does Network Interface Card (NIC)?
Physically connects the end device to the network.
What is physical port?
Connector/outlet on a networking device where the media connects the device to antother end device.
What is interface?
Specialized port on a networking device connecting to invidual networks. (On router - network interface)
What is the difference between physical and logical topology diagram?
Physical shows where the device is physicaly, logical shows it’s location in network (address)
What is SOHO?
Small Offfice and Home Office network
Define internet
Worldwide collection of interconnected networks
What is an Intranet?
Private collection of LANs and WANs belonging to organbization
