Module 1 Flashcards
Four types of tissues
Epithelial
Muscular
Nervous
Connective
Epithelial tissue and example
Covers internal and external body structures and forms glands
Skin is an example of
Nervous tissue and example
Carries messages throughout the body to direct its activities
Neurons establish electrical communication system within the body
Muscle tissue and the three types
Contains involuntary and voluntary movements
Cardiac, skeletal, and smooth
Cardiac muscle tissue
Only found in heart and involved in the beating of the heart
Skeletal muscle
Voluntary and maintains posture and other skeletal functions
Smooth muscle tissue
Involuntary movement involved in functions such as the digestion of food
Connective tissue and the types.
Provides structure and support of the body. Holds body parts together.
Loose connective tissue, fibrous connective tissue, adipose tissue, cartilage, bone, and blood
What does loose connective tissue do
Connects epithelial tissue to underlying tissues and helps stop pathogens from entering the body’s blood stream
Fibrous connective tissue
Connects muscle to bone and bone to bone
Bone
Provides support and protection and allows the body to move
Cartilage
Acts as a shock absorber and reduced friction
Blood tissue
Serves as the transportation mechanism for important chemicals
Adipose tissue
Aka fat
Serves as energy padding and insulation
What do the lungs do
Deliver oxygen and remove co2 from the blood
