Module 1 Flashcards
The surroundings that have the conditions for living and non-living organisms to operate
environment
French word ENVIRON
surrounding
The natural environment consists of four interlinking systems/components of the environment
- atmosphere
- hydrosphere
- lithosphere
- biosphere
includes all the bodies of water
hydrosphere
contains soil, earths rock, and mountains
Lithosphere
covers the air
atmosphere
called as the life layer and refers to all organisms on the earths surface
biosphere
five concentric layers of the atmosphere
- troposphere
- stratosphere
- mesosphere
- thermosphere
- exosphere
99% of all the water vapor and aerosols, weather and most aviation takes place here
troposphere
home to the earths ozone layer, weather and cloud free, jet place are placed here
stratosphere
coldest within the earths system, noctilucent clouds are found here, sounding rockets and rocket powered aircrafts are here
mesosphere
contains the ionosphere, cloud and water vapor free, aurora borealis and aurora australis is seen here, ISS are found here
thermosphere
highest layer of the atmosphere, no weather at all, earths satellites are here
exosphere
its an interdisciplinary academic field
environmental science
goals of environmental science
- how nature works
- how environment affects us
- how we affect the environment
- how to deal with the environmental problems
- how we can live sustainably
