Q

Why might this statement be true “Christian’s should never fight in war, all Christians should be pacifists”

A
  • some Christian’s choose to be pacifists as in the bible it says do not kill. This is taken to mean in all situations including war

-some might believe that the life and teachings of Jesus supports a pacifist approach to life.

-some may believe that in wartime they should help the wounded rather then kill the enemy

Q

Why might this statement be false ‘ Christian’s should never fight wars, all christians should be pacifists’

A

-the quakers are the only Christian church who officially rejects all fighting and violence. All main churches accept that sometimes armed conflict is necessary and can be the lesser of two evils eg: protect people from an aggressor

The bible doesn’t reject war and fighting but accepts that sometimes it is inevitable

In history, there is a tradition of a ‘holy war’ as a war fought with gods authority to achieve a religious goal.
