Q

What was Glanzer & Cunitz experiment?

A
  • participants hear list of words
  • asked to recall them in any order
    • condition 1: immediate recall
    • condition 2: recall after interference task

Q

What were Glanzer’s & Cuntiz’s results ?

A
  • PPs recalled more words at beginning (primacy) and end (recency) of list
  • interference task removed recency but not primary
    • implies primacy words are stored elsewhere
    • proved we have 2 separate memory stores; short term & long term

Q

What was Conrad’s experiment?

A
  • encoding
  • suggested STM code all information acoustically
    1) participants presented with list of consonants
    2) pps asked to recall what they’d seen
  • errors of recall were with letters which sounded similar e.g Bs mistaken for Ps 62 times
  • suggesting visual presentation is encoded according to acoustic sounds
