Models Of Memory Flashcards
1
Q
What is the multi-store model (MSM) ?
A
- Atkinson & Shiffrin
- describes flow between 3 storage systems of memory

2
Q
Evaluation of MSM
A
+ supporting evidence: any research from miller, Paterson & Peterson, Baddeley
+ case studies:
• HM- brain damage after operation, can’t make new memories
• Clive wearing- only recognise wife
- too simplistic: WMM produces contradictory evidence
3
Q
What is the working memory model (WMM) ?
A
- Baddeley & Hitch
- focuses on STM
- argues we have more than one STM store

4
Q
Evaluation of WMM
A
+ support from dual task performance: Baddeley & hitch, 2 same parts= bad, 2 different parts= good
+ support from brain damaged patients: KF, motorcycle accident, poor STM
- biologically deterministic: case studies focus of one person. Not generalisable
- problems with central executive: vague, not clear, sounds the same as ‘ attention ‘ in MSM
5
Q
What is dual task performance ?
A
- if you do two things at once but one requires vision and other sound then you can perform both task’s successfully
