Q

laws of density

A

object sinks in a liquid of smaller density of its own otherwise it floats or is wholly submerged
an object is suspended in a liquid if it has a density equal to that of the liquid

Q

anomalous nature of water

A

abnormal property of water whereby it expands instead of contracting when the temperature goes from 4 to 0 degrees ,and becomes less dense

at 4 degrees, water has the highest density and contracts as the temperature rises from 0-4 degrees .hence in regions where winter is severe, lakes cool at the surface and when the water reaches 4 degrees water will be denser and hence sink so water that freezes will be at surface
layer acts as an insulation preventing or slowing down further cooling. results in top down freezing so aquatic life can survive below ice even if air temperature above is below 0 degrees
