Modeling conservations of mass Flashcards
Chemical Equation
Chemical formulas and symbols are written to represent a reaction.
Chemical Formula
A shorthand notation that uses chemical symbols and numbers as subscripts to represent the type and number of atoms that are present in the smallest unit of a substance
Chemical Process
Method or means of changing one ore more chemicals or chemical compounds.
Chemical Reaction
The process by which one or more substances change to produce one ore more different substances.
Coefficient
A number is placed in front of a chemical symbol or formula that represents the number of molecules.
Conserve
To present the loss of something
Law of Conservation of Matter
Scientific law states that the mass of all the reactants must equal the mass of all products; matter is neither created nor destroyed.
Mass
A measure if how much matter is present in a substance.
Molecule
The simplest unit of a chemical compound that can exist, is formed when two or more atoms join together chemically.
Product
A substance produced during a chemical reaction.
Properties
Physical and chemical characteristics of matter used to describe or identify a substance.
Reactant
A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a chemical reaction.
Subscript
A number is written below and to the right of a chemical symbol that shows the number of a specific type of atom present.
