5 rules of the roundabout
- Do not stop
- Do not wait
- Do not park
- Do not change lane
- Do not overtake
4 things to do when approaching a roundabout
- Approach using correct lane
- Slow down to give way to vehicles approaching from the right
- Observe traffic light signals from the right hand side
- Approach roundabout clockwise.
What is a road?
A path followed by vehicles

Always keep left unless overtaking
What is one-way traffic/dual carriage:
A road with 2 or more lanes moving in the same direction
E.g. Thika rd, Mombasa rd, Expressway
What are the two categories of one-way traffic
- Major road: 4 lanes
- Minor road: 3 lanes
What color line seperates the lanes of a one-way traffic road?
White
- white dotted: can overtake or change lane when road is clear
- White continuous: no overtaking or changing lane
What is two way traffic/single carriage?
A road with two lanes moving in oppisite directions
E.g. Kasarani Mwiki rd, Kiambu rd
What colour line seperates the lanes in a two-way traffic road?
Yellow
- Dotted: can overtake or change direction
- Continuous: No overtaking or changing direction
Two types of parking on MTB
- Angle/controled parking
- Flush/uncontroled parking
Angled is 45 degrees
Flush is parallel
Main purpose of green fields
- To create space for future expansion or extension of the road
Also beautify the road (side funtion)
What vehicles can be allowed to park on the green field sometimes?
Trailers and tractors
Why are the yellow kerbs at the corners of the green field?
To protect the green field. They mean no parking or waiting
What is the traffic island and its function
Central part of the round about used to facilitate smooth flow of traffic from different directions without causing collision or obstruction
