A

failure to meet basic needs of a dependent person.
Older adults and children or disabled ppl are more commonly neglected.
-can be unintentional by the caregiver.
-can be emotionally neglected. Person may not feel loved or wanted.

A
  • fear of the abuser hurting them or neglecting them not wanting to spend time with them.
  • fear of being put in LTC.
  • May not know where to report it
  • May think it’s normal behaviour

A

occurs when a parent, guardian or caregiver mistreats or neglects a child resulting in injury, emotional or physiological harm, risk of harm.

Cycles of abuse…3 phases are?

A

1) tension building phase. Tension builds b/w abuser and victim, events and comments start to irritate the abuser, victim may try to soothe the abuser.
2) abusive phase. Tension explodes, abuse takes place, may be triggered by an unrelated event.
3) honey moon phase. Abuser feels ashamed. Remorseful, they apologize, make promises, both the abuser and victim think the a users gonna change.

listen to them, not judge, reassure the ct you believe them, notify supervisor, report to authorities.
