Mod 3 Flashcards
Which RNA viruses are transmitted person-to-person by contact w/respiratory secretions?
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Which virus is a single stranded enveloped RNA virus that is a part of the Genus Rubulavirus, member of Paramyxovirus family?
Mumps virus
Which virus is an RNA virus, genus morbillivirus, member of Paramyxovirus?
Measles virus
These symptoms, high fever, cough, rhinitis, red eyes, occur 10-12 days after exposure & last 7-10 days, a macropapular rash appear 3-5 days after the start of symptoms & is contagious from 4 days prior to 4 days after start of symptoms/rash?
Measles
These symptoms, fever, muscle pain, headache, fatigue, usually fallowed by swelling of parotid glands (confused with swelling of lymph nodes). Occur 16-18 days after exposure, & resolves after 4-10 days, contagious from a few days prior to 4 days after symptoms?
Mumps
These symptoms, mild fever, rash (face, then body), sore throat, fatigue, & swollen lymph nodes. Symptoms occur about 14 days after exposure & resolve after 2-3 days. Contagious from about 7 days prior to start of symptoms to end of rash?
Rubella
What are complications associated w/ the measles virus?
secondary complications (30%) diarrhea, blindness, inflammation of brain, pneumonia
What are complications associated w/ the mumps virus?
meningitis, pancreatitis, permanent deafness, testicular/ovarian swelling. symptoms in adults more severe than in children
What are complications associated w/ the Rubella virus?
bleeding problems, inflammation of nerves, & congential rubella syndrome (CRS) (if infection occurs during early pregnancy)
this causes the German measles or 3-day measles?
Rubella
This causes Roseola (fever/rash), neuroinflamatory disease such as MS, encephalitis, pneumonitis
Human Herpes virus -6 & HHV-7
how does the HHV-6 & HHV-7 gain entry into the nervous system?
via olfactory tissue
what glands serve as a reservoir for the HHV-6 & HHV-7
Salivary glands
This is a very small non-enveloped DNA virus that causes Erythema infectiosum, chronic anemia in AIDS patients, Arthritis (lasting 1-3 weeks up to several months), miscarriage due to severe fetal anemia?
Parvovirus B19
This causes mucous membrane lesions or “water warts” on the skin; most commonly on trunk, arms, groin, legs?
Molluscum Contagiosum Virus (MCV)
