What is a open-book account?
an account that is open to charges made occasionally as needed
What is a statement?
Similar to an invoice; a summary of total amount owed, including outstanding charges as well as payments received for services provided by office.
What is a single-entry account?
An account that only has one charge, usually for a small account, for a pt who doesn’t come in regularly
What is a written-contract account?
An agreement between the physician and pt stating that the pt will pay a bill in more than 4 installments
What is a cycle billing?
A system that sends invoices to groups of pt’s every few days, spreading the work of billing all pt’s over a month while billing each pt once
What is glottis?
The opening between the vocal cords
What is bronchioles?
A part of the respiratory tract that branches from the tertiary bronchi
What is epiglottis?
The flap-like structure that closes off the larynx while swallowing

The total amount an employee earns before deductions

Used around descriptions in the alphabetic index
What does NEC mean?
Not elsewhere classified
What does the plus sign(+) mean in ICD coding?
Is used for add on codes to describe procedures done in addition to the “main” procedure
What is a compliance plan?
A process for finding, correcting, and preventing illegal medical office practices
What is medically necessary mean?
Healthcare services or supplies needed to diagnose or treat an illness, injury, condition, or disease or it’s symptoms and meets accepted standards of medicine
When do smaller practices send out statements?
Monthly/ at the end of the month
What does the diaphragm do, when you exhale?
It relaxes
What part of the brain controls respiratory rate?
The pons
What is the role of the medulla oblongata in breathing?
Controls both the rhythm and depth of breathing

Employees who earn hourly wages: limits the amount of hours they can work, sets their minimum wage, regulates their overtime. Requires employer to record the hours you’ve worked
Where do you look for answers regarding coding questions from year ago?
The coding manual
How should you handle a situation where you are asked an inappropriate question during a job interview?
Be polite and remain professional when declining to answer. Simply state that the requested info is not necessary for the employer to evaluate your qualifications for the job. Try to move the topic on to a more relevant topic
When is your first evaluation to be expected in most offices after you are hired?
At the end of a probational period
