Mod 1.5 : Computer management Flashcards
what is the difference between minimum system requirements and recommended system requirements
minimum system requirements are soft wares that runs with minimum specific requirements on low settings
recommended system requirements is a software hat runs on its recommended settings
what are system requirements
they are the minimum computing hardware specifications that we need to install and run a program or software
different ways in which hardware can be installed
- Physical media (Portable Storage Media) - go to the store and buy the software in a box. return home and insert the media into the appropriate drive. the installation program starts automatically
- Online downloads with installers - go to the website of the company or person that sells the software. You purchase the software and click on the provided link to download the installation file. Then you run the installer
- online downloads without installer - Freeware and Open source software
steps to installing software and why its necessary for each of them
- Agreeing to the Licence Agreement - most software can only operate under a strict(legal) licence agreement
- Inputting a Product Key - to link the copy software to you, prevent piracy and prevent the same
- Chorusing the Folder the program should install to - its is usually best to stick with your operating system’s default application folder
- Choosing the type of installation you want - typical installations which contain options and components of software that most users want ; custom installation which allows more experienced users to choose the components to be installed ; full installation where all components of the software are installed
- Installing other extras - some programs allow you to add other ‘useful’ software
- Checking for updates - check if newer editions of the program are available to download
- Registering online - may have to register your program online and choose if you want to receive news on future updates
- Adding shortcuts - if you want a shortcut on your desktop or startup menu
- A ‘tour’ of the program - this is often in the form of a video which shows you the latest features of the program and w to start it

why do most of your management duties on the computers will involve managing files
because files are the only way that computers allows you to keep data permanently. This means that everything that e do on a computer tends to generate files of data
what does windows search do
Windows Search facility lets you search for apps and computer settings in addition to documents and other (types of) files.
other ways to manage you files
- Tell what kind of data file it contains - file extensions indicated what type of data it is ; convert file to another format
- Convert files between different types- share files as data type that can be read by other users ; import and export
- View or add extra information of file - properties
- Hide a file so that it can not be deleted or changed- Check the ‘ hidden’ attribute
- Prevent content of files from being changed- check the ‘Read Only’ attribute
dealing with faulty hardware
- Forcing connectors into wrong slots
- Not using the correct consumables
- Spilling liquids on equipment
- Not protecting against power surges
- Dropping equipment
The physical electronics ( CPU, RAM,motherboard) of a computer system rarely fails unless they are among other things… name 4 of them
- subject to repeated power surges
- subject to water damage
- run incorrect ways
- overheating
what are the common sense precautions that one can take to prevent conditions where the physical electronics don’t fail
- using UPS ( uninterruptible Power Supply)
- keeping liquids away from the computer
- ensuring proper cooling
