Mod 11 - Male Reproductive System - Hormones Flashcards
What is the effect on FSH secretion in the male?
Binds to sustentacular (Sertoli) cells of seminiferous tubules, causes the production of Androgen Binding Protein (ABP).
What is the effect of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) in the male?
Stimulates FSH and LH secretion from the anterior pituitary.
i. What are some effects of testosterone on the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary?
ii. What about in the body?
i. Inhibition of GnRH; reduction in FSH and LH
ii. Development of sex organs and secondary sex characteristics.
Where is inhibin produced and what is its role?
Sustentacular cells
Inhibits FSH secretion
Which 5 hormones regulate the rate of testosterone secretion from the testes?
GnRH LH FSH Testosterone Inhibin
What is the effect of LH secretion in the male?
Stimulates testosterone secretion by interstitial (Leydig) cells of testes.
NOT a hormone, but what do Sertoli (sustentacular) cells do?
Produce Androgen Binding Protein (ABP) to trap testosterone in the seminiferous tubule to increase the rate of sperm production.
