mod 11 Flashcards
Basic Goal of a Lean System
the goal of a lean system is to maximize the value for the customers while minimizing waste
describe a pull system
production control where work is pulled through the production process based on acutal demand rather then being pushed through by forecasts
how lean management reduces each of the seven sources of waste
overproduction: produce actual demand
waiting: reducing idle time for when products or workers wait for next step
transport: minmize unecessary movement
extra processings: eliminate extra steps
inventory: holding excess inventory ties up capital
motion: reduce extra movement by workers
defects: prevent errors and rework
what is takt time similar to
how is it different
similar: cycle time measures time it takes to complete or produce
different: aligns with customer demand
5 parts of 5s
sort: remove unnecessary items
set in order: organize items for access
shine: clean workspace
standardize: implement strategies for consistency
sustain: maintain and review standards
5s steps for audit checklist
total time=value added time_ nonvalue added time
why suppliers might resist lean efforts
cost implications, capacity constaints, resistantance to change
how is increased producivity a benifit
elimination of waste streamline of process, improved operations
kanban
used for visualizing work, limiting WIP, improving flow and production
