mod 10 Flashcards
buildings of traditional design tend to use moldings with
more complex shapes and in much greater quantities.
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) specifies the type of respiratory protection that is required for
different types of hazards.
Inspect tool cords periodically, and if they are damaged, have them
repaired by an authorized service facility.
Base moldings are always installed after ………
all door casing moldings are nailed in place.
In general, base moldings have an unmolded lower edge, allowing a base shoe molding to be added to
conceal any unevenness between the base and floor or to hide edges of carpeting and other flooring.
the 3 types of Ceiling Moldings -
Crown, bed, and cove moldings
Window and Door Trim Common profiles include…..
colonial, clam shell, and wedge.
Coping saws are used for cutting the ____ & ____ necessary when cutting along the profile of a trim molding in order to make a coped joint.
curves and irregular lines
Miter cuts are made whenever an _________ is needed.
angular cut
A scarf joint is used whenever
it is necessary to join two sections of molding on a wall or ceiling in order to achieve the required length.
All standard US crown moldings have a ___-degree top rear angle that fits next to the ceiling and a ____-degree bottom rear angle that fits against the wall.
52-degree (to ceiling)
38-degree (against the wall)
Stools, hardwood trim, and similar heavier materials would be installed using a ____ gauge nailer.
15-gauge nailer.
Most carpentry procedures can be accomplished in more than one way. One typical procedure for installing base and related shoe molding is described here. If shoe molding is being installed, it is installed in the same basic manner as the base trim, except that it is nailed into the floor instead of the baseboard. This prevents the joint under the shoe molding from opening should shrinkage occur in the base molding. Also, since shoe molding is a small molding and has a solid backing, both inside and outside corners are usually mitered. Where it meets a door casing with nothing to butt against, its end is normally backmitered and sanded smooth.
.
However, when using crown/bed moldings, the moldings are not applied flat against the wall. Instead, they cover
the wall/ceiling joint at a 45-degree angle.
On the inside face of the side and top door jambs, use a combination square or measure and mark the distance from the jamb edge to the desired reveal setback. This is typically ¼”.
