Atrophy
A decrease in the mass of muscle: can be a partial or complete wasting away of muscle
Ambulation
The ability to walk from place to place
Ambulatory aid
A device that assists with the ambulation for client mobility difficulties
Ankle foot arthritis
A foot brace that is used to prevent foot drop
Deconditioning
The loss of muscle size, strength and function (muscle atrophy) that results from immobility and inactivity
Foot drop
The foot falls down at the ankle
Non weight bearing
The client does not bear weight on the affected extremity
Orthostatic hypotension
A drop in blood pressure when the client stands up
Partial weight bearing
Depending on the physicians orders, the client bears a percentage of his weight on the affected extremity
Synscope
A brief loss of consciousness; fainting
Which muscles are attached to bones and are voluntary
