Q

Who Said Still was the “Discoverer of the osteopathic lesion”

A

Eckford Tucker

17
Q

Episteme and Techne mean what?

A

(Knowledge and Craft)

Techne, Think general method or approach.

18
Q

When we hear Technique what should we do?

A

Think specific application (How we use the tools we have, methods)

There is technique in what we do and how do we do… (Leverage, active/ passive.. ECT…); techniques are not classical osteopathy.

19
Q

When we hear Techne what should we think?

A

Think general method or general approach.

20
Q

What was Flexners Opinion of Pacrific College Of Osteopathy ?

A

They study, but don’t have rotations in the hospitals, and rarely see medical cases (1909

21
Q

What was Flexners Opinion of ASO?

A

The enterance was less than common schools.
(Learning the dogma, its a BUISNESS/ to MAKE money!!)

The school was absurdly inadequate for the number of students, The students werent being taught, and the teachers werent able to properly treat, it was unfurnished and cheap

22
Q

What did Dr. Still do with Chalk?

A

The school allowed Husbands and wives to study/ graduate together –> He said Hugh was Sarah’s assistant as a joke

23
Q

AACOM: Glossary says a Model is?

A

Used in osteopathic patient care (Behavioral, biopsychosocial, respiratory-circulation, biomechanical-structural, metabolic-nutritional)

The models in relation to the perceived dysfunction and what system it is acting on

24
Q

AACOM “Model” was problematic for Osteo why?

A

It said that Osteo looks at models to understand the effects of a lesion. This is where it becomes problematic, because they say that models articulate how a practitioner seeks to influence a patient physiological process.

25
Q

The osteopathic techniques that are described in the AACOM Glossary in Models states that Osteos Use____ to influence this area of patient health… Not Osteopathy…

A

Counterstain and Chapman reflex

26
Q

Edythe Ashmore’s Osteopathic Mechanics (1915) How did she describe the methods/ Principle of how things work?

A

Articulating surfaces must retrace the path they took in their displacment

It requires less force, and the right angle, to be as gentle as needed

27
Q

Osteopathic Lesion Vs Somatic Dysfunction

A

Somatic Dysfunction” Impaired or Altered Function of related components of the Somatic System (Skeletal, Myofascial, Lymphatic, and natural elements)

A lesion is the CAUSE! why we understand the mechanics and force to help the body restore vilality

28
Q

An incorrect idea about Flexners report was that ?

A

“The oppressive environment that was created by this report forced the osteopathic concept and forced osteo schools to comply with allopathic medical economic agenda”

29
Q

Flexners Major adjustments to the medical industry were?

A

Requirement for highschool Diploma and 2 years of Science, LARGE NUMBER INCREASED!! this made medical schools part of larger universities and not independent places

Professors, need to be UNIVERSITY professors, not active doctors/ having a practice outside of teaching

30
Q

What did Marc Say about the Book by Carol trolbridge?

A

(Joked about women being taken seriously and being able to have education) The school allowed Husbands and wives to study/ graduate together –> He said Hugh was Sarah’s assistant as a joke

31
Q

Even though the report that was created by flexner and funded by John D Rockafeller, that bastardized Osteo…?

A

John D Rock had 2 Osteo’s that helped him (Sarah and Hugh Russel)

32
Q

How did the report impact Osteo education?

A

NOT 1 school was closed!!! Based on this report

33
Q

The New Legacy Video Talked about Anthony Chila’s Structural Examination of the new patient said what about his adjustment?

A

“More of an energetic re-balance of the knee rather than an anatomical adjustment”

34
Q

Why do we need a definition of Lesion?

A

to “FIND” it… and be able to say what is abnormal; methods through collective mechanics can show us this… It’s about motion, and forces.

35
Q

What did Charlie Still say/ classify that You are a Lesion osteopath if you ???

A

Go direct to the lesion, and remove it, even moving outside the area of most restriction, he sees as inaccurate classical osteopathy, Find it fix it and leave it alone

36
Q

Osteo has technique, what is ours though?

A

Specifics of how we use the principles of technique applied to treatment.

37
Q

What were Edythe Ashmore’s Osteopathic Mechanics (1915) 2 methods employed by Osteo’s?

A

1) Traction (Exageration) (Indirect ;) )
2) Thrust “Direct”

but RETRACE through barrier, Take it where it wont go so you can restore its health

38
Q

What did Edythe Ashmore prefer to teach and why?

A

Direct, because it was easier to teach students to do. Feeling direct barrier is easier to teach
