MOCROSCOPE Flashcards
STUDY
Movement
Living things can move parts of their body.
Respiration
Living things use chemical reactions to transfer energy from sugar in food to fuel for the cells.
Sensitivity
Living things can detect when there’s a change in enviroment
Growth
Living things grow in size
Reproduction
Living things produce offspring similar to themselves.
Excretion
When living things remove the waste in their bodies.
Nutrition
Living things need healthy food and water to survive.

Cell membrane
The structure that surrounds the cell and allows substances in and out
Nucleus
Contains DNA or the genetic material of the cell
Cell wall
Gives cell a rigid and stable structure/ gives shape to the cell
Mitochondria
Produces energy for the cell through respiration
Chloroplast
Site of photosynthesis (where energy in sunlight is converted into food using water and carbon dioxide)
Vacuole
Stores substances of the cell - especially water
Cytoplasm
The jelly like fluid that fills the cell
What are the functions that only the plant cell has?
Plant cells have chloroplast, cell walls, large vacuoles, and Ridgid/ regular shape.
What are the 7 criteria for something to be deemed living?
MRS GREN
Do plants or animals produce their own food?
Plants (via photosynthesis)
What are the small parts of a cell called?
Organelles
What type of cell has a regular rectangular shape? Why does it have this shape?
Plant Cells. The Cell Wall provides rigidity.
What organelle produces energy?
Mitochondria
What organelle carries out photosynthesis?
Chloroplast
What part of the cell contains liquids to keep the cell firm?
Vacuole
