What do you do for a living?
I am a photographer and I own my own business
When did the accident occur?
On the 30th March 2015
Where did the accident occur?
On Clarrie Hall Dam Road
What were you doing in the area?
I was driving to Clarrie Hall Dam to take some pictures for a chemist in Uki. They are considering using one of my photographs for their 2016 Calendar
What was the weather like?
It was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect.
Were you excited about taking photographs for the chemist?
I knew I had a really good chance of winning the work of I got good local photos so I was excited. I get to make money doing something I love.
What roads were you on?
Kyogle Road and then I turned onto Clarrie Hall Dam Road
Are you familiar with the area?
Yes I often go to the Dam
Please describe the road?
It is a very quiet road with farms and fields on both sides
Did you stop before reaching the Dam?
I saw an amazing stretch of flowers growing on the the fence line along the side of the road. I decided to pull over and take a few shots before heading off to the Dam
Where did you pull over?
I pulled over to the left hand side of the road where there was a small clearing
Did you indicate?
Yes
After you pulled over what did you do?
I took some photos of the flowers with the fields and roads in the background and then hopped back in my car.
Where did you then go?
I was really excited about the shots I had taken so I decided not to go to the Dam. So I indicated and pulled out onto the road to perform a U-Turn
What occurred when you pulled out to do a U-Turn?
As I pulled out to turn around, I suddenly heard a loud crunch and yelling.
Did you know what had happened?
It took me a moment to realise that my car had been hit by a motorcycle
After you realised what did you do?
I jumped out of my car and ran to see the motorcyclist
What did you see?
The motorcyclist had been thrown over the bonnet of my car and was lying in the side of the road. He appeared to be conscious and told me his name was Cameron
Did you talk to Cameron?
Yes I told him to stay still and that an ambulance was on its way
What did you do when the ambulance arrive?
While Cameron was being treated after the police and ambulance arrived, a person I now know as Bailey Torrington came over and introduced himself
What did Bailey say?
He said that he works in one of the farms in Clarrie Hall Dam Road and was in the field when they saw me stop the car
Did you even admit that the accident was your fault?
At no stage did I admit that the accident was my fault nor did I apologise
Did you see Cameron advancing when you made the U-Turn?
Before I made the U-Turn I checked that no traffic was coming and the next thing I know Cameron had hit me
Are you sure you didn’t see Mr Visser on his motorcycle?
He must’ve been driving really fast as one minute there was nothing and the next, i heard the crunch
What have the police charged you with?
They have charged me with Dangerous Driving Causing Grievous Bodily Harn
Do you admit that you were driving dangerously?
I was not driving dangerously
To your knowledge, were you following the road rules?
I did everything I was supposed to. I had pulled over, made sure there was not traffic coming and then indicated and slowly started to pull out.
Have you had any prior convictions?
No I’ve never even had a driving ticket
