Describe a proscenium / end on stage

A

Audience sits in front of stage, facing it directly the stage is normally at a lower height. Apron of stage extends out closer to seating area.
Sight lines are excellent but audience can feel removed from the action.

A

A rectangular shaped stage in the centre with audience surrounding it, audience feel included- intimate but sight lines can be an issue so there needs to be lots of movement around the space.

A

A stage that juts out into the audience on L, R and F sides but still has a back of stage.

A

Positioned in the centre of an audience, the audience is around the whole stage.
Intimate stage space good for drama with audience involvement- creates atmosphere but sight lines can be tricky from all angles

A

Stage where the audience sits on 2 sides, similar to a cat walk. Creates an intimate stage space - builds intimate atmosphere.
Audience can see work that happens at 2 sides but can see 2 entirely different shows from either side- can cause bad sight lines.

A

Visually striking
High stylisation which is evident through the brussel sprouts scene.
It has been performed on both thrust (londons national theatre olivier stage) and end on stage Originally performed by the Oakland’s youth theater and was titled Catherine.

How is brussel sprouts scene originally staged

A

People frantically changing roles, playing scenery, properties and characters. The energy must create a pacey atmosphere which illustrates Maureen’s internal panic.
Catherine must be staged doing a repetitive action such as brushing hair or re laying and laying table, starting off calm and slow and gradually becoming more frustrated.

A

Lighting- warm parcan of a ambient amber colour, spotlight with a yellow gel on the family. Lighting uses Strobe of red when Troll enters.
Song Dalur by Olafur Arnalds is played and when Troll enters is stopped and drum SFX play

Bridge= stage right
