Good evening. Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Taylor Alexander, I am 36 years old and have lived in Emerald Bend for my entire life.
What do you do for a living?
I work in local politics, back in 2023 I ran for city council. I also own some rental properties.
Why did you run for city council?
Growing up in Emerald Bend, I have seen this town struggle. That’s why I hoped, as a part of the city council, to help improve our economy.
Did you have a plan to improve the local economy?
Yes, I did. Emerald Bend only has one hotel in town so I thought we could increase tourism, benefiting local restaurants, shops, and businesses by opening up more vacation rental opportunities.
Who was your opponent during this election?
Harper Dorais was running against me, with Logan Gold as their campaign manager. We were scheduled to have one final debate on November 11, 2023.
Let’s focus on that final debate, on November 11. Was that debate important to you?
Yes. This was a very important debate in the election, It was my final opportunity to really get the community to understand my vision for Emerald Bend. But I never got my chance, I was kidnapped that morning.
Ms. Alexander, I want to give you the opportunity to share your side of the story and walk us through what happened. How did the morning of November 11th begin for you?
It’s 5:30 AM and I wake up, and get dressed for my morning run, something I do everyday, but when I step outside I am attacked from behind, blinded by a hood.
So after they put the hood over your head, what happened?
My wrists are tied behind my back. I fight, I kick, I scream, I try with all my might to get away, but I can’t. They shove me in the trunk of a car and drive, drive for a long time
I’m sorry for what you went through Ms. Alexander…what happened next?
The car stops, and the trunk opens, but I can’t see anything. I am dragged from the car and its cold and muddy, I don’t want to go with them but they drag me along. A door opens and I am pushed into a chair and my legs and arms tied.
Can you continue to walk us through what took place next?
I beg for my freedom, I don’t want to be here and they just keep saying “I brought this upon myself.” but it doesn’t make sense, I don’t understand, I haven’t done anything
Ms. Alexander, were you able to recognize this voice?
No, their voice is gravely and whispered, like they don’t want me to know who they are
After being told you brought this upon yourself, what happened?
I am forced to drink some sweet substance, there will be consequences if I don’t. So I do. It makes me so sleepy, I can’t keep my eyes open and then there is nothing.
You went unconscious. When did you wake up?
I am being shaken, everything is spinning, I start to panic, what is going to happen to me?
What do you remember next?
They make me drink more liquid, I keep trying to get away, asking for my freedom, but all they say is “Everything comes back around.” and I am confused, that’s what Logan Gold always says, and then I am asleep again.
What is the next thing you remember?
I wake up on my own, I don’t hear anyone or anything. My wrists are no longer tied and I pull the hood off my head, it says “Dorias for Emerald Bend” it’s a pillow case from our only hotel in town. Looking around I recognize this place, I know where I am, I am in my storage shed at my own rental property!
After recognizing your location what do you do?
I gather my bearings and I realize I still have my keys, they were in my pocket from this morning when I was kidnapped from my home and moved to the shed. I run to the main house and call 911
Who answers?
It’s Deputy Kim and I tell him I am at 1335 Lakeside Drive and that I need him to hurry.
When did they arrive?
He gets to me within the hour.
I’m sorry for what you have gone through and I appreciate your cooperation, Ms. Alexander, it must be very difficult.
Please tell us what if anything happened after the police arrived.
Time has passed and I gain clarity on everything, Deputy Kim interviews me and then I get my blood drawn in town.
Were you able to participate in the debate scheduled for that day?
No, the debate time was already over, my chances of getting my voice heard to Emerald Bend were gone, they were taken from me that day.
What was the result of the election?
I lost, Harper Dorais and Logan Gold won the election and the vacation rental restrictions.
