Every country has a meeting culture that is based on the following (4):
- Time perception- monochronic or polychronic
- Spatial perception- individual conduct levels w/ physical contact and personal space
- Non-verbal communication- eye contact and body language
- Business etiquette- appropriate topics of conversation, whether or not you should present a gift, etc.
What are the impact of culture in business?
- Influence on tariffs, legal regulations, and competition
- Failure to consider that influence could ruin a negotiation, derail a marketing campaign, and cause labour unrest

Important factors to consider are climate and religions beliefs when entering a foreign market ex. no market for Canadian pork in Israel, as Jewish culture forbids eating pork

Canada’s financial service industry has successfully entered foreign markets->
- attitudes towards money are often culturally determined, so Canadian banks in foreign countries must understand their client’s culture to meet their savings goals
- ex. Many Japanese families save specially-made kimonos for their daughters

Monochronic (time is seen as linear and sequential) and polychronic (time is seen as involving many things happening simultaneously with participation of many people-time is flexible and schedules are not primary importance)
What do they mean by melting pot? How does it differ from the term mosaic?
Melting pot means a place where different people, styles, theories, etc are mixed together
-> term used by the US
Canada is a mosaic place where different people and cultures are embraced and distinctive
Negative effects of globalization?

What are some of the problems with Canadian health care system?
Prescriptions are overpriced, “merry-go-round of blame shifting”, lack of business management, aging baby boomers bankrupting system, customers unhappy with services in health care system
