MOA's Flashcards
Group 1
ACCase Inhibitors (Fops and Dims)
Mostly used for grass control
Inhibits the ACCase enzyme in the plant
Group 2
ALS Inhibitors
Branch Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) Inhibitor
Cross resistance is common within this group
Group 3
Root Growth Inhibitor
Applied pre-plant or pre-emergence to control grasses and small-seeded broadleaf weeds.
Inhibit cell division which stops roots from extending
Are yellow in color
Group 4
Growth Regulators
Also known as synthetic auxins
Generally selective for broadleaf weed control in grass crops.
Ex. 2,4-D, Dicamba, MCPA, MCPB
Groups 5,6,7
Photosynthesis Inhibitors -Photosystem II
Used to control grass and broadleaf weeds.
Inhibit Photosystem II which is a part of the photosynthesis pathway
Groups 8 and 15
Shoot Growth Inhibitors
Generally control grass weeds and small-seeded broadleaf weeds.
Soil-applied herbicides and control weeds that have not emerged from the soil surface.
Group 9
Aromatic Amino Acid Inhibitors Only herbicide in this class is Glyphosate. Non-selective herbicide (kills grass and broadleaves)
Group 10
Glutamine Synthesis Inhibitors Only herbicide in this class is glufosinate. Non-selective burndown treatment
Groups 13 and 27
Pigment Synthesis Inhibitors
Prevent chlorphyll production thus giving plants a “bleached” appearance.
Also referred to as HPPD-inhibitors
Group 14
Cell Membrane Inhibitor Destroy cell membranes. Activity is delayed in the absence of light. Also referred to as PPO-inhibitors. Known as “burner”-type herbicides.
Group 22
Photosynthesis Inhibitors—Photosystem I
Cell membrane disruptors.
Non-selective weed control and crop desiccation prior to harvest.
