MOA and side effects Flashcards
MOA of Pramipexole (Mirapex)
A dopamine agonist that binds to DA receptor to increase DA activity
MOA Carbidopa
preventing metabolism of levodopa to increase the efficacy
MOA of Entacapone
COMT inhibitors that blocks the enzyme catechol O methyltransferase to prevent peripheral conversion of levodopa
MOA of Ropinorole (Requip)
A dopamine agonist that binds to DA receptor to increase DA activity
MOA of Amantadine
blocked dopamine reuptake into presynaptic neurons and increases DA release; primary treats dyskinesias associated with peak levels of Sinemet
MOA of Levodopa
precursor of DA, so will become DA to treat Parkinson’s Disease
MOA of Selegiline
Selective MOA-B inhibitor that blocks the breakdown of dopamine
SE of Pramipexole (Mirapex)
Warning: somnolence, orthostasis, hallucinations, dykinesias
SE: N/V, dry mouth, peripheral edema, dizziness
***titrate slowly due to orthostasis, dizziness, and sleepiness
SE of Sinemet
Nausea, Dizziness, orthostasis, dyskinesias, hallucinations, psychosis, brown/black urine, unusual sexual urges, priapism
***do not abrupty stop, taper slowly
SE of Amantadine
Warning: somnolence, psychosis, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, livedo reticularis
SE of Selegiline
Warning: serotonin syndrome, HTN, CNS depression, dyskinesias, impulsive control disorder
SE of Ropinirole
Warning: somnolence, orthostasis, hallucinations, dykinesias
SE: N/V, dry mouth, peripheral edema, dizziness
***titrate slowly due to orthostasis, dizziness, and sleepiness
SE of Rasagiline
Warning: serotonin syndrome, HTN, CNS depression, dyskinesias, impulsive control disorder
MAO inhibitor
MOA of Donepezil (Aricept)
Actylchoinesterase inhibitor that acts centrally to block the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain
MOA of Rivastigmine (Exelon)
Actylchoinesterase inhibitor that acts centrally to block the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain
