The eyes of her lover are not beautiful

The poet says they are slanted

His hair is rough like barbed wire

But that doesn’t upset her
Ach ní chuireann sé sin isteach uirthi
At the end of the poem we can see why she is in love with him
Ag d’aireadh an dáin feicimid cén fáth go bhfuil sí ngrá leis
He gives her apples and grapes when he is in good humour
Tugann sé úlla di agus tugann sé caora fíniúna di nuair a bhíonn sé I ndea-ghiumar
Because he looks after her
