MMT Grades Flashcards
0
No evidence of contraction, either visually or during palpation
1
Trace
Tendon becomes prominent or feeble contraction felt/palpated in the muscle; no visible movement of the limb
-The big difference between 0 and 1 is that you can get return of function with 1. If they have 0 the patient may not be able to regain function depending on the neurological injury they have
2-
POOR
Ability to move through partial range
-GRAVITY ELIMINATED
2
POOR
Muscle or muscle group can move through COMPLETE ROM with gravity eliminated
-ROM only with no overpressure
2+
POOR +
Ability to move through full ROM with gravity eliminated against resistance or to hold against resistance at end range. Anti gravity muscle can move through partial range. If the limb cannot move full range, place their limb there and give resistance. This will allow you to determine their strength
3-
Fair
Gradual release from the test position once the limb is placed against gravity
3
Can hold against gravity without additional force
3+
Pt can hold against gravity with an additional minimal pressure (<25%)
4-
Holds against slight to moderate pressure (25-49%)
4
Holds test position against moderate pressure (50-75%
4+
Holds against mod to strong pressure (75-95%
5
Normal/ does not break
