Infrequency Psychopathology (Fp)
○ Detect intentional over-reporting in individuals with psychopathology
Lie (L) Scale
○ Extent to which client is “faking good” or describing self in an overly positive manner
○ Questions most people will endorse (“I once stole a candy bar”)
K scale
○ More subtle and sophisticated index of “faking good” or “faking bad”
○ Higher scores indicative of ego defensiveness and guardedness
Variable Response Inconsistency Scale (VRIN)
○ Measures tendency to respond inconsistently
○ Attempts to evaluate random responses
True Response Inconsistency Scale (TRIN)
○ Identifies all true (acquiescence) or all false (non-acquiescence) response style
○ Acquiescence: tendency to mark “True” regardless of content

● Measure of rebelliousness
● May engage in asocial or antisocial acts

● Not a valid scale (A non-clinical scale)
Scale 6: Paranoia (Pa)
● Designed to identify patients judges to have paranoid symptoms like ideas of reference, feelings of persecution, grandiose self-concepts, suspiciousness, excessive sensitivity
● Prognosis for therapy is poor

● Similar to obsessive-compulsive disorder
● If this is inflated, everything else is bad

● Delusions, hallucinations may be present
