Stability tasks are tasks conducted as part of a operations outside the United States and its territories in coordination with other instruments of national power to maintain or reestablish a safe and secure environment and provide essential governmental services, emergency infrastructure reconstruction, and humanitarian rellief.

Stability tasks involve both coercive and constructive actions. They help to establish or maintain a safe and secure environment and facilitate reconciliation among local or regional adversaries.

Stability tasks assist in building relationships among unified partners, and promote specific U.S. Security interests. Stability tasks can also help establish political, legal, social, and economic institutions while supporting the transition to legitimate host-nation governance.
