Q

What is a homogeneous mixture?

A

Homogeneous mixtures look the same throughout, ie. a solution (eg. mouthwash, saltwater) and you cannot physically seperate it

16
Q

What is a concentrated solution?

A

A solution where there is a lot of solute dissolved in the solvent

17
Q

What is a dilute solution?

A

A solution where there is little solute dissolved in the substance

18
Q

What is the opposite of a concentrated solution?

A

Dilute solution

19
Q

What is the opposite of a dilute solution?

A

Concentrated solution

20
Q

What is a saturated solution?

A

A solution where you cannot dissolve anymore substance/solute

21
Q

What is an unsaturated solution?

A

A solution where you can dissolve more substance/solute

22
Q

What is distillation?

A

Seperating liquids by using evaporation and condensation

23
Q

What features must 2 liquids have to be able to perform distillation?

A

They must have different boiling points

24
Q

What is decantation?

A

Using gravity to seperate a solid and a liquid or a liquid and a liquid (eg. sand using gravity to fall to the bottom of water)

25
Q

What is a centrifuge?

A

A machine that spins really fast to seperate 2 substances

26
Q

What is crytallisation?

A

The process of atoms or molecules arranging into a well-defined, rigid crystal lattice in order to minimize their energetic state
