Q

Growth and DNA replication - step 2

A

Before it divides, the cell has to grow and increase the amount of sub cellular structures such as mitochondria and ribosomes

Q

Growth and DNA replication - step 3

A

It then duplicates the DNA - one copy for each new cell. DNA is copies and forms X-shaped chromosomes. Each ‘arm’ of the chromosome is an exact duplicate of the other

Q

Mitosis - step 1

A

The chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell and cell fibres pull them apart. The 2 arms of each chromosome go to opposite ends of the cell

Q

Mitosis - step 2

A

Membranes form around each of the sets of chromosomes. These become the nuclei of the 2 new cells - the nucleus has divided

Q

What has been produced at the end of mitosis?
