mitosis Flashcards
what is mitosis?
mitosis i the the process of devision where two daughter cells are produced that have the same number of chromosomes as the parent and also as each other (clones)
what is meiois?
meiosis is the process of devision there four daughter cells are produced that each have half the number of chromosomes as the parent.
what is interphase?
interphase is a period of considerable activity within the cell where
what happens in prophase?
prophase this the process where the nucleus disappears and the nuclear envelope breaks down releasing the chromosomes into the cytoplasm.
what are the centriols?
they are cylindrical organelles that move to opposite ends of the cell during prophase. from the centiols comes spindle fibres which attach to the centromeres of the chromosomes.
what is metaphase?
metaphase is the lingo up of the chromatids along the equator of the cell due to the attachment of the microtubules from the pulls allowing them to be pulled along the spindle fibres.
what is anaphase?
anaphase is tho process where the centromere splits into and the sister chromatids are pulled apart by the spindle fibres moving quickly towards the opposite poles.
what is the process of telophase?
telophase is where the chromosomes become longer and thinner until they disappear leaving inly widely spread chromatin, the spindle fibres disappear, and the nucleolus and nuclear envelope reform around the chromosomes.
what is cytokinesis?
this is the process where the cytoplasm splits producing two new cells.
