Mitosis Flashcards
What are the 4 stages that mitosis occurs in?
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase
Define Mitosis
a type of nuclear cell division that is used by cells for growth, repair, and healing and asexual reproduction.
What are homologous chromosomes?
sets if chromosomes in a pair with the same size, shape, and genetic content.
What is the difference between diploid cells and haploid cells?
Diploid cells contain 2 sets of chromosomes while haploid only contains 1 set.
What are chromatids?
Two exacts copies that make up each chromosome.
Define The Cell Cycle.
a series of phases that a cell undergoes consisting of growth and division throughout the lifespan of an organism.
Define Karyotype.
A picture if chromosomes arranged in homologous pairs by size.
What are the first 22 pairs of chromosomes called?
Autosomes
What are somatic cells?
Any cell in your body except your gametes.
What is the longest stage of the cell cycle called?
Interphase
During what stage does the G1, S, and G2 phases happen?
Interphase
What are the advantages of asexual reproduction?
They reproduce quick, dont require energy for creaying gametes, and they dont need to find a mate.
