Mitosis Flashcards
Chromosome
A compacted chromatid that is visible, a duplicated chromosome consists of two identical structures called chromatids, DNAs compacted into 2 identical structures
Chromatid
Chromatids are held together by a centromere DNA and proteins exist in the chromatid for most of the cell’s life cycle
Centromere
Holds chromatids together
Cell cycle
The life cycle of a eukaryotic cell (growth, reproduction, death) divides into three stages interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis
Interphase
The part of the cell cycle during which the cell is not dividing, the cell grows twice it’s size and it produces organelles, normal cell function happens, DNA duplicates
Mitosis
The part of the cell cycle which the nucleus divides (Prokaryotes can’t undergo mitosis because they don’t have a nucleus)
Cytokinesis
The division of the parent cell’s cytoplasm, after mitosis
