Mitosis Flashcards
What are two forms of cell divisions
Mitosis and meiosis
What type of reproduction is indicative of mitosis
Asexual reproduction
What is the result of mitosis
Identical daughter cells
What are the results of mitosis
A single cell division, 2 identical daughter cells
What are the stages of interphase
G1 S and G2
What does S stage of interphase entail
DNA and histone replication
What are the stages of mitosis
Prophase, metaphase anaphase and telophase
What happens in prophase
Chromatin is supercoiled into chromosomes. The nuclear membrane disintegrates the spindle fibres begins to form
What are the 2 stages of metaphase
Prometaphase and metaphase
What are 3 types of spindle fibres
Kinetochore microtubules, Astral microtubules and polar microtubules
What occurs in prometaphase
Spindle fibres penetrate nuclear area, Kinetochore form around centromere
Microtubules attach to kinetochores
What occurs during metaphase
The chromosomes line up at the equator, the polar microtubules begin to pull the sister chromatids to opposite ends of the cell
What happens during anaphase?
The sister chromatids separate forming daughter chromosomes.
They move to opposite ends of the cell
What happens during the last stage of mitosis
The daughter chromosomes arrive at opposite ends of the cells.
A nuclear membrane forms around them.
They decompress
What is the difference betwenn cytokinesis in a plant cell and in an animal cell
In a plant cell a cell plate forms in an animal cell a furrow forms
