Mitosis Flashcards
Cell Cycle
When cells in an organism got through a cycle or growth, development, and division.
Mitosis
The process by which a parent cell divides into identical daughter cells.
Interphase
The cell cycle stage between mitosis periods on which the cell grows.
Prophase
In the first phase of miosis, chromosomes condense and the nuclear membrane starts to disappear.
Metaphase
The second phase of mitosis during which chromosomes line up along the center of the cell.
Anaphase
The third phase of mitosis is during which each chromosome is pulled apart by spindle fibers and the resulting daughter chromosomes are pulled to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase
The fourth and final phase of mitosis during when a nuclear membrane forms around chromosomes on opposite sides of the cell and the chromosomes become unwound DNA in a newly formed nucleus.
Cytokinesis
A stage of the cell membrane pinched in and the cytoplasm divides into two daughter cells after mitosis.
Centriole
An organelle found near the nucleus in animal cells forms the spindle fibers that pull chromosomes apart during mitosis.
Chromosomes
The part of the cell that contains genes.
DNA
The chemical found on cells is the main component of chromosomes and carries genetic information.
Centromere
A structure that holds the sister chromatids together.
Sister Chromatids
Two identical chromatids make up duplicated chromosomes.
Daughter Cell
The results of the cell cycle are where two genetically identical cells are formed.
