Mitosis 101 Flashcards
Mitosis
Splitting of the nucleus to form identical instructional sets. (Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase)
Prophase
-centrioles migrate towards the poles (as a result of the spindle fibers projecting out from the centrioles)
-nuclear membrane dissolves
-chromatin packs up to form visible chromosomes
Metaphase
-centrioles have reached the poles
-chromosome have pinned up in the middle
-centrioles have become attached to the centromere of every chromosome through the use of spindle fibers (they connect to the centromeres)
Anaphase
-spindle fibers retract
-chromatids are pulled apart from one another becoming un replicated chromosomes
-the newly formed chromosomes migrate towards the centrioles at the poles
Telophase
-Chromosomes have reached the poles
-nuclear membrane are forming around each set of chromosomes
-chromosomes unpack to reform chromatin
