Mission Systems Flashcards
What does HERO stands for?
Hazard of Electromagnectic Radiotion to Odnance.
How many feet are personnel to remain from HERO ordnance?
140 feet for (AN/APS-115) or 250 feet for (AN/APS-137 and APG 66)
What is the feet stand off for personnel on a P-8 for RADAR?
213 feet
500ft for fueling
and 302ft for HERO
What does EO stands for?
Electro-Optics
What does IRDS stands for?
Infrared Detection Systems.
What are IRDS for?
To sear, detect, identify and obtain intelligence on surface targets
How does IRDS work?
It converts infrared radiation from a heat source to a black and white television image.
What does SASP stands for?
Single Advance Signal Processer
What is SASP used for?
To detect and classify submerged submarines
What does MAD stands for?
Magnetic Anomaly Detection.
What is MAD used for?
It detects submarines by measuring changes in the Earth’s magnetic field caused by the metal construction of the submarines.
What does ESM stands for?
Electronic Support Measures
What is ESM for?
It detects and analyzes radar signals and measures the relative bearing (direction) of an intercepted radar signal.
Is ESM a passive signal?
Yes
Why is ESM a passive signal?
Because it does not emit any signal that can be detected by the enemy.
What is OTPI stands for?
ON-Top Position Indicator
What is OTPI for?
Enables the receiver to provide bearing to a selected sonobuoy.
What does DPS stands for?
Data Processing System.
What is DPS for?
It provides an interface between the navigation systems, search systems, ordnance control and release system, disply system and communication systems
What FDS stands for?
Flight Director System
What is FDS for?
It’s a navigational and attitude aid
What EFDS stands for?
Electronic Flight Display System.
What is EFDS used for?
to provide heading, course, and attitude information to the pilot and copilot
