Society
An organised group of people associated for a specific purpose or with a shared common interest
Stratification
A type of social inequality where society is divided into levels on the basis of a social characteristic eg wealth or status

A way of viewing socialisation emphasising social action

Institution
An established organisation founded for a religious, educational, professional or social purpose

A concept that refers to the way in which peoples thoughts, feelings, appearance and behaviour are regulated in social systems
Socialisation
A lifelong process where members of a society learn its norms, values, ideas, practices and roles in order to take their place in that society
Primary socialisation
Socialisation during early years of childhood, takes place with immediate family, the key process internalisation occurs of societies culture where individuals absorb and accept its shared norms, taught basic values and accepted behaviour patterns
Secondary socialisation
Teenager and adult years when family less involved and peer groups, friends, schools etc are socialisation agents, taught moral skills eg cooperation, teamwork, learning to take responsibility, all learnt at school
