What are the steps in venepuncture?

A
  1. Introduction. 2. Patient name and DOB. 3. Explain and get consent. 4. Ask if they want anaesthetic cream. 5. Get equipment (gloves, tourniquet, gauze swabs/tape, containers, needle). 6. Take sharps bin to bedside. 7. Decontaminate hands. 8. Put on gloves and apron. 9. Apply tourniquet and select appropriate vein. 10. Swab skin for 30s and wait 30s. 11. Ensure bevelled edge of needle is upmost and insert at 15* angle. 12. Collect blood in appropriate containers as per order of draw. 13. Release tourniquet and remove needle covering with cotton wool. 14. Dispose of needle safely and apply pressure to site. 15 Ensure bottles are mixed and label samples. 16. Place samples into polythene bag, check that bleeding has ceased. 17. Dispose of clinical waste and decontaminate hands.

What are the steps in PR exam?

A
  1. Introduce self and check patient details. 2. Explain examination and answer questions. 3. Discuss chaperone. 4. Get consent. 5. Check equipment. 6. Wash hands and put on gloves. 7. Position patient left lateral with knees to chest and expose. 8. Inspect. 9. Insert lubricated finger. 10. Ask patient if it was painful. 11. Palpate internally. 12. Ask patient to clench and then unclench. 13. Withdraw finger and inspect finger. 14. Clean up patient, cover them up, dispose of equipment and allow them to get dressed. 15. Wash hands. 16. Thank and discuss findings. 17. Record in notes.
