What are the considerations for the release of a police fact sheet?

A
  • Section 314 Criminal Procedure Act gives media the right to inspect court held documents. Media must apply to registrar no later than two working days after the proceedings are finalised.
  • Police prosecutors may make available fact sheet for accurate reporting if the fact sheet has not be filed at court but the prosecutor read out aloud in open court.
  • If a fact sheet has not been read aloud or handed up in court, the media must not be given access and the enquiry should be referred to MAU
